Sermon - Simple Discipleship, Will Adams
Matthew 28:16-20
“16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Big Idea: Simple discipleship is worshipping, witnessing, and walking with the risen Christ.
Point 1: Simple discipleship begins by worshipping Jesus with our whole heart (v.16-17).
Simple Application: Begin each day by worshipping Jesus.
Point 2: Simple disciples are made when we bear witness to the King we worship (v.18-19).
Acts 1:8
“8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Simple Application: Pray everyday this week for those in your life who don’t know Jesus, and share the Gospel with one person this week.
Point 3: Simple discipleship matures by walking with Jesus in our whole lives (v.20).
Matthew 16:24
“24 If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”
Ephesians 5:1
“1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.”
Simple Application: Read the Bible everyday this week, looking specifically for what Jesus has commanded. And when you come across His commands, intentionally put them into practice that day.
