Sermon - Simple Rest, Kevin Wright

Matthew 11:25–30

Come to Me, and I Will Give You Rest

[25] At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; [26] yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. [27] All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. [28] Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (ESV)

Big Idea: Simple rest is believing that God cares more about the work he’s given you than you do, and he cares more about you than he cares about your work

Rich Villodas:
“We keep sabbath not because it makes us more productive at work. We keep it to resist the idol of productivity.  We are more than what we produce.”

Easy Memory Verse:
John 10:30
[30] I and the Father are one.” (ESV)

Simple Steps Forward:
1.  Memorize Matthew 11:29
[29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (ESV)
2.  Actively practice rest.
Take 5-10 minutes every day this week to be still and remember that He is God.
3.  Adjust your to do list
Intentionally choose to set aside one thing this week SO THAT you can replace it with prayer.
