The mission of August Gate Church is to be disciples who make disciples as we grow to know, love, and follow Jesus together by His grace.
But this isn’t just our mission, it’s the mission Jesus has given all of His people for all time! In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus gave us the Great Commission, calling us to obey Him in every area of life based on a new identity in His person and work. Luke 9:23 tells us all discipleship begins with the call of Jesus to follow Him; something we can only do when we deny ourselves and take up our cross. In John 10:14-15, Jesus says “I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and my own know me.” A few chapters later in John 14:15, He says “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
To grow as disciples means we are learning to live out our new identity in Jesus by growing to know, love, and follow Jesus more. That is, we’re living the Gospel Cycle: The more we know Jesus, the more we will love Him. The more we love Jesus, the more we will follow. Him. The more we follow Jesus, the more we will know Him. And the cycle repeats.

Jesus is clear that as we grow as disciples, we will also grow in our desire to make disciples, helping others experience that growth together with us as we seek to know, love, and follow Jesus together by His grace.
